Through Sliding Doors: The Life and Work of a Kidney Doctor, by John Feehally
This book is available to pre-order. Orders including this book will be shipped on the book launch date of Tuesday 22 September.
Overview:
John Feehally qualified in medicine in the mid-1970s with the intention of becoming a GP. But within a few years he had fallen in love with nephrology and made that his career goal; he found irresistible its blend of intellectual challenge, complex clinical medicine, and long term holistic care.
After training in nephrology in Bristol, Leicester and Manchester he was appointed consultant nephrologist in Leicester in 1988, and then honorary professor of renal medicine in 1999. He worked in Leicester until he retired from the NHS in 2015. John’s research career was helped on its way by several tranches of funding from Kidney Research UK. He became a trustee of the charity in 2014 and then chair of the trustees (2015-18). He also held a number of nephrology leadership roles in the UK and beyond including President of the Renal Association (2004-07) and President of the International Society of Nephrology (2011-13).
In his memoir ‘Through Sliding Doors’, John describes his background and the decisions which took him into medicine and then into nephrology. He then reflects on the many facets of his career in the UK and beyond; a career which spanned nearly forty years in which the practice and delivery of kidney care have been steadily transformed.
All proceeds from the sales of the memoir are going to Kidney Research UK.
